Hello fellow Democrats!
As your candidate for Democratic Party of New Mexico (DPNM) Chair, I believe my extensive experience and unwavering commitment to Democratic values make me the ideal choice to lead our party forward. Here's a bit about me and my journey:
I have been a devoted Democrat since my youth, registering to vote on the very first day I was eligible. My father, a proud member of the Minnesota Democratic Farm Labor Party, instilled in me the importance of political engagement and the power of our party's ideals. The words of Paul Wellstone, "We all do better when we all do better," have guided my actions throughout my life.
My diverse background as an "Air Force Brat" exposed me to various cultures, reinforcing my belief that diversity is our strength. This global perspective was further enhanced during my college years in France, where I witnessed firsthand the benefits of progressive policies such as free higher education, universal healthcare, and strong labor unions.
New Mexico has been my home for 50 years, where I've dedicated my life to public service and political activism. As a librarian for 47 years, I've served communities across the state, from Truth or Consequences to Albuquerque. This experience has given me a deep understanding of both rural and urban New Mexico, a crucial asset for leading our state's Democratic Party.
My union involvement, including roles with NEA New Mexico and the Albuquerque Teachers Federation, has honed my organizing skills and reinforced my commitment to workers' rights. As the chair of the Committee of Political Education for 17 years, I've worked tirelessly to elect strong Democrats at all levels of government.
Currently, I serve as a delegate representing the Albuquerque Teachers Federation to the Central Labor Council and as chair of the DPNM Labor Council. These positions have further prepared me for the role of DPNM Chair, allowing me to build strong relationships within our party and the broader labor movement.
As an Emerge NM graduate (class of 2008), I've received valuable training in political leadership, which has enhanced my ability to guide our party effectively. My vision for the Democratic Party of New Mexico is rooted in our core values: fighting for healthcare, affordable housing, gun safety, living wages, workers' rights, and quality public education.
With my extensive experience, deep New Mexico roots, and unwavering commitment to Democratic principles, I am prepared to lead the DPNM into a future where we continue to champion the rights and needs of working-class New Mexicans. Together, we can build a stronger, more inclusive party that truly represents the diverse voices of our state.
